Skating Through Life

Today has been pretty great. I slept in a bit, got dressed, ran errands, stopped by work for a bit to finish some work up, had Chipotle, did some thrifting and bought a dress for a friend's upcoming wedding (more about that on Monday).

Once I got home I cleaned my room, took some measurments for Etsy stuffs, started working on a project I'll show you next week, oh and went ROLLER SKATING! I found some vintage roller skates in my size last week for $8. Tlak about a score. The problem is I haven't skated since I was 12 and apparently 10 years off wheels really effects your ability to skate. When I was a kid, skating was the thing everyone did, and I was a skating queen. I even had a show down between myself and a boy I went to school with. it was judged by my best friend, and I won. Totally desereved it. Right? Luckily, I only fell twice! I figure with a little more practice (and some new shoes laces. I'm thinking something sparkly or polka-dotted) I can show my face at the roller rink (we still have one in all it's awesomly 70's glory!) and wow everyone with my mad skating skills. At least that's the fantasy in my head.

I fall with so much grace.

This dress is new to me. Actually it's pretty much brand new because it's deadstock! I was so excited to find it! I'm fairly sure it's 1940's, but I need to do a little research before I can call it, however all the details point to 40's. It's made by Top Mode Frocks, which my google-ing has yeilded little-no info on. I did find another dress that was being sold which had the same tag mine did. It was labled as early fifties, though personally I still think that looked very 40's. Eitherway, I'm in love with this dress. It had the original belt and everything! Look at the bows and scalloped neckline! So, so, so stinking cute!

Now I'm off to go rent The Young Victoria so I can cry my eyes out and wish for decadent clothing. Le sigh.

  1. I looked up Top Mode Frocks on Vintage Fashion Guild's Label Resource and couldn't find anything. Is there any other name on the tag?

This is a great resource, by the way.

  4. I love the dress!! You look darling. That fabric print is so perfect. I agree, it looks 40s to me.

Roller skating looks like so much fun! I haven't done it in years, but I was crazy about it when I was a little kid. :)

  7. That dress is adorable! The skates reminded me of my own long-ago skating afternoons with friends at the rink, where I rented skates and longed for pink puffballs to tie to the tops of them, like some girls had, or on the sidewalks at home, where I had a pair of those awful metal strap-on skates that were adjusted with a key and make an amazing racket as you cane down the driveway.

  8. Mom- Since we have already discussed this, let's talk about something important. You need to change your picture. I love you.

Aya- Thank you! My hair was so windblown by this point I was afraid I looked a total mess! haha! So thank you!

Sarah- I have planned our whole summer based on this new fact. Where'd you get yours?

Sarah- From what I can tell it's later 40's, The print isn't 50's enough I think. and I know what you mean about skating. I've since managed to mess up my wrist with these things! I remember why I wore wrist guards now! haha!

Cheeky Curves- Oh you should try it! It's scary as heck at first, but so much fun!

Jennifer- Thanks! I should have shop stuff up by tomorrow night!

Kendra- Thank you! When I was a kid the roller rink in town did a discount for home-schollers on Fridays, so all my friends and I would go and skate for hours. I loved it when the disco ball dropped and all the lights went out! Man I miss that! haha! I've always wanted a pair of the key/strappy kind!
