MEET: Luna

MEET: Luna

No one is quite sure what her real name, but she is called Luna by those who dare to call her at all. You see while Luna is surrounded by other little girls her age, none of them have the courage to associate with Luna. She is a dark child, speaking in a dark voice, with dark eyes that seem to draw one in, despite one's desire to run away from her. She is a good student and Miss Bleak, the headmistress of Miss Bleak's School for Girls, has never had a problem with her. Which is quite surprising for an orphan. Or at least, everyone assumes that Luna is an Orphan. You see, she was left on the doorstep of the school as a babe with naught but a note that read the following:
Please watch over my darling child.
I cannot care for her as I have always wished I could.
Please be sure my little moon baby has all the accomplishments of a real lady
for that is what she should have been.
Tell her I love her, and will always be watching over her.

It was Miss Meriwether, the jolly English teacher, with a penchant for romantic poetry, who found Luna those nearly sixteen years ago. and it was Miss Meriwether that Luna liked best. She was the closest thing to a mother the dark and mysterious child had ever known. On the rare occasion that Luna spoke, it was to Miss Meriwether. In return Miss Meriwether (who had always wanted a daughter, but who's heart had been broken one too many times by a romantic poet), doted upon Luna. You could say that Luna was happy, though few had ever seen her smile.

Truthfully, it is a lie to say that the note was all Luna was left with. For wrapped inside the crimson blanket swaddling the babe, was enough money to pay for an education at Miss Bleak's five times over and a beautiful Ruby ring with what appeared to be some sort of rather violent looking dog carved on either side, which Luna was given when she was old enough to take care of it. Afraid that the writer of the note would, in fact, be watching as Luna grew, Miss Bleak made sure to see that Luna had every thing a young girl could want. But Luna seemed disinterested in all these things. Truthfully the only things that Luna seemed to like were depressing poetry, grey days, dogs (which was possibly the oddest of all), and parading about the gardens in the light of the moon. Little did any of the teachers know that Lune herself was quite mystified by all these things that seemed to call out to her. Her only friends were the dogs, and for some strange reason she always thought better, clearer in the moonlight.  But the thing that perplexed Luna the most, was the draw she felt towards those pair of ruby coloured eyes she could see through the hedge some times. Those eyes that only ever watched her, yet seemed to call her closer. No one else ever seemed to see those eyes or hear the low growl that announced them, but as she stood in the garden on this particular night, the eve of her sixteenth birthday, she found she could resist those eyes no more. And so Luna, without much though and suddenly feeling a great weight from the ring she wore on her finger, stepped through the hedge...

Remember when it was rainy a while back and I started dressing like some mythic Victorian Orphan? Well, I might as well give her a name. This weather is driving me crazy though! One minute it's sunny and warmish, the next it's cold and raining. It makes getting dresses very difficult. I hope you all are enjoying your weekend. I'm recovering from a Sweet Sixteen Spa Sleepover (Happy Late Birthday Delaney!!). Four Sixteen year olds, Grace and her two friends, homemade spa treatments, and pedicures... I'm pooped!
