I seem to forget how to dress each summer. I'm not sure how that really happens since summer 'round here is usually March through November, but once the temperature goes up, it's like I lose all ability to dress myself. I like layers, I like darker colours, I like clothes with texture and dimension, all of which are utterly useless in the heat. So I have found that I am in dire (yes, dire) need of sundresses. I have a few, but not many, and definitely not enough to get me through the week. So Sunday I decided to whip one up. Originally inspired by this photo, I decided to make a red and white polka dotted simple sundress. The bodice is the free Sorbetto pattern from Colette Patterns. The interwebs have become obsessed with this pattern, and I can now see why. Best. Pattern. Ever. I am not joking, so simple to make, so wonderful to wear, and endless possibilities (there will be more Sorbetto love coming this week). I think the whole thing -cutting included- takes less than an hour. It's seriously great. The only change I made to the pattern was shortening it five inches for a bodice, super easy! The skirt is just two rectangles gathered at the top. I drafted some pockets for this too. All in all this might be the most perfect sundress I've ever owned. I skipped the bias binding on this one and just hemmed it and I quite like how simple it is, with naught but the pleat detail. Easily dressed up or down, goodness I love this! The best part? No closures! It just slips over my head! This would make a great beginner garment, the most difficult thing is gathering, and if I can do it, anyone can do it! I am going to have to make a few more of these to get me through the next month. Month! Golly guys! I leave in September!!! Maybe I should just tough it and start working on my Autumn wardrobe...
