Cheese

I've had this photo hanging out in the back of my mind ever since I saw it on Urban Weeds. There's just something about the geek-chic ness of it that I really like. The simplicity, the more modern style, I just really liked it.
Last night I took a stab (and managed to get two and a half things done!) at my mending pile which included a long navy blue dress. I don't know why I bought this dress. It's jersey, which is a fabric I hate, it was super long, and I'm not to jazzed about the neckline. But there it sat in my mending pile to be hemmed. So I hemmed it and as soon as I put it on to try out the length, I thought back to this photo. So here's my take on it:

Sweater- Macy's last Christmas, Dress- Thrifted,
Slip, Deer pin, Barrette- Vintage,
Earrings- World Market
Tights and boots- Target
Yes the slip is actually supposed to peek out. So many people keep telling me in discreet tones that my slip is showing and each time I say, it's supposed to. Then they look at me like I'm a hussy, or laugh. It's been fun.

Bow- some sort of packaging?, Dress- Gift from sister,
Sweater- Vintage with switched out buttons,
Earrings- F21, Oxfords- Vintage

My sister gave me this dress. She bought it for herself, but it ended up being too big so she offered it to me. There are some things I love about it, but every time I look at it something turns me off. My mom and I figured out that it's the length, it's just too dowdy. So I am going to hem it up an inch or two. And these shoes! I have been looking for brown oxfords for two years. I finally found a pair at Goodwill last week. They are Bally brand and actually men's, but you'd never know it! It's been hard not to wear them with everything this week!
Bow, Sweater, Blouse, Brooch, and Oxfords- Vintage
Skirt- Thrifted and altered Bitten Dress
Socks- who knows. they are circa 2006.
I was going for this collegiate thing. eh?
In other news I wrote what might possibly be the stupidest song last night. I played it for my Voice coach today. He said it was quite possibly the most brilliant song ever written. I asked him to give me a legitimate reason for his illogical phrasing. He asked me this "why do people move to California?" I sighed and dramatically said "The damn sunshine, and stupid 'dream.'" He smiled and said no. "it's the cheese. Cheese sells."
It took my fifteen minutes to figure out how cheese was relevant to my song writing abilities until it finally clicked that oh, my song was cheesy.
Ironically the lyric that was incredibly "cheesy" was "if I am the ham, then you are the cheese."
Other options for this line:
"If I am the hankie, then you are the sneeze."
Go me. I am playing it tonight at an open mic night. We'll see how this goes.

  1. Oh, they're all so cute, but I really love that last outfit! The collegiate chic look is darling, and that cardigan is perfect. :)
