Fantastic Scholastic

Hello hello! Welcome new followers! I am trying to not be rubbish at responding to comments, but please know that I have read them all, and am ever so grateful for each of you following me and my little blog!

Easy dresses for class

Well today is the day! I am praying that I can get into this class because my goodness I forgot what fun it is to back your bag the night before class. I have a wonderful Christmas gift that has helped me get all ready for note taking that I shall show you tomorrow. I have a lunch packed, an adorable outfit on, and a skip in my step! Yay for education! Let's see how much I like it in a week or two...

Cute skirts and blouses and jumpers to look and feel smart!

One thing that I kept thinking about when I decided to go back to school was my clothing. See back two years ago when I left school, I was just starting to actively wear vintage. I'd been a fan my whole life and had bits and pieces of vintage clothing in my wardrobe, but rarely wore them, and usually resorted to my jeans and hoodie combo because I was still desperately trying to fit in. But during the summer of 2008 I discovered fashion blogs and found that there were other girls like me who preferred vintage clothing, and who actually wore them on a daily basis. So began this blog, and my foray into vintage everyday. My last semester of school I was essentially trying to give any and all people who would see me the metaphorical finger (which might be why someone has to retake the class she took that semester Miss I Don't Have To Ever Do Any Homework Bitch Teacher), and let my dressing fall by the wayside as I began to grow up. So I ended up spending the first half of the semester having people think I was a rockabilly-pinup-girl type (I am not), the second half I became Mega Hipster because I was trying to be ironic. For more info on how that worked out for me, please see my archives.

The dreaded pants? Why not! Perfect for off days (or that time of the month when you hate life!)

I have to state that I do not for a second regret leaving school when I did. I was very disillusioned with the world, the music dept., and my life in general, and I can honestly say that some of the happiest months of my life followed leaving school. But now I'm a grownup, now I have learnt the things I needed to, now I am much more sure of who I am and what I want, and how to tell choir directors to go jump off a bridge. And this is why I am so very excited to go back. I am now at a point in my life where I am finally ready to finish my degree and just be happy because I did it for me, and not because I was under some false impression that I "had" to.

The three ladies in the front middle look very dour. It must have been finals...

So with being much more grown up in mind I have begun to contemplate what my school appropriate wardrobe should be. Granted I will be working still, and my class is mid-day, so whatever I wear to work will be what I wear to class, but still trying to find that balance between office wear and classroom wear is something I'm trying to be mindful of. I also really want to avoid the mid-term "schlump" where you just give up because you want to take a blowtorch to your text book. So I'm looking for easy to throw on outfits, like a cute jumper and blouse or day dress. Even pants! I just bought some jeans that I am in love with and can't wait to cuff them and throw on a vintage blouse and my saddle shoes.

My favourites here are the ladies on the ends and the lady in the middle right

My favourite school photo ever! There is so much goodness to behold! I'm quite in love with the girl on the second from the left's hair, and the girl on the far right looks as though she might need to sneeze! And how great is the girl in the middle of the second row's smile?
I've been setting my hair each night and have finally got things down to a system where it will look pretty, and not too costume-y. I stick out like a sore thumb on a normal day, and will especially stick out amid the masses of hipsters and bros, so I don't want to call too much attention to myself. I don't dress to be cool, I dress for me, and I'd very much not like it to be a big subject of discussion in class.

This is my absolute favourite of this lot! I have a theory on people's smiles. The better a person's smile the better the person. This photo is just filled with wonderful smiles and some pretty cute clothes to boot!
The only other thing that keeps popping up in the back of my mind is how to avoid being labeled as "grandma." I honestly don't mind people thinking I'm old-fashioned (I am), but I'm already going to be at least a few years older than most my classmates, and inevitably the "granny" word will be tossed about. And while it doesn't bother me, per se, I don't think it's all that appropriate to have my style and personality be some sort of distraction. After all the only people more judgmental than High School Students and Community College Students.  But I'm just going to be me, and I'm going to have fun, and I'm going to learn much, and I'm not really going to care what Brandy-bro-ho thinks of my hairdo!

  1. Good luck with school my dear! Good on you for going back! Don't worry about being labelled grandma, wear what you like! I know it is so hard to do but we need to please ourselves sometimes, not others! I love those patterns, the trousers in them are so lovely! To answer your question, which was not weird at all, my nail polish colour was Rimmel's 60 Second polish in "Rapid Ruby". It looks great in just one coat. Thanks for commenting on it as I just got it for Christmas:)
