I made this skirt this past autumn, but never got around to properly showing it off (though it did make an appearance). I actually realized there's a few other projects that never got documented. Must fix that this week! (Also I have just realized that I've worn a version of this outfit here before, but this is definitely my favourite.)

Nearly half my wardrobe is navy blue. It's a really good colour on me, and I really love it. My sisters and I have all realized that when we go shopping the things we show each other, the things that really tug at our heart and purse strings, are always navy blue. It just compliments our colouring and frankly it's pretty. But I have like, four navy skirts, I think that's enough.

Sometime this past fall I felt like starting a new project. I looked through my clothes to see what I was in need of. Definitely not another blue skirt! Tops, I need tops. So I started going through my fabric stash to see what kind of fabrics I had for a blouse. Oh hey, what's this? Navy blue wool crepe? Whoa where did this come from? I have no memory of buying it or folding it, or ever seeing it, wait, didn't I buy this in Solvang that one year? I think I wanted to use it for making my bridesmaid dress for Bri's wedding. Wow, this stuff is beautiful. I love the drape of it. Hmm, that's not a lot of yardage. Oh Hey, I could totally get a skirt out of this. I don't have a gathered navy skirt, well I do, but it's floral, this would be a totally great addition to my wardrobe! Awesome!

And now I have five navy blue skirts. I'll make a top some other time. On the plus side: Wool crepe guys, this stuff is seriously like, my favourite thing ever. It irons well, it gathers well, it stitches up well, it drapes beautifully... I think it's my fabric soul mate. I want to find some in red. This one is a patternless dirndl skirt with one pocket. I used a vintage zip and a modern white plastic button. I finally figured out how to do a blind hem, so this is my first project featuring one (and I will never do any other kind of hem.). It may seem a bit of a boring choice, but I do love it, and I cannot gush over this fabric enough! I love wearing it, and feeling, and seeing it... I just love it.

  1. I love the pops of red in this outfit! And I love navy too, though I don't think I own as much of it as you do! It really is flattering, and less formal-looking than black. That blouse you made is so darling--I love the sailor collar! (But I am a sucker for those.)

    1. Thank you! I totally agree! I think Navy is just as elegant, but a little more inviting, y'know? I am such a sucker for sailor collars too! I'm itching to stitch up a dress with one for this summer. Thank you for stopping by!
